Pauline Costins

I am a registered nurse, endorsed midwife and a (non-practicing) lawyer and have completed a master’s in health law. I have many years’ experiences as a midwife working in the United Kingdom and Australia in a variety of roles, more recently as a Clinical Consultant midwife with WA County Health Service [WACHS]. I am passionate about health professionals understanding the legal and professional requirements of our work, together with providing respectful maternity care.

My legal interests include health law, ethics, maternal-fetal conflict, and professional issues. I have participated in several hospital investigations and provide expert midwifery opinion on negligence matters and issues relating to unsatisfactory professional performance and conduct.

I currently work as an academic lecturer part-time teaching midwifery and professional issues.

I am a Fellow and Life member of the Australian College of Midwives [ACM]; I am keen to share my passions and ensure that the history of midwifery and midwives in Australia is retained for future generations.
